Swim Lessons

Okay, so Kristi and I thought it was a good idea to get the kids into swim lessons since they spend a lot of time in our pool or on the Fehr boat. They have been having a good time in general but it is getting harder and harder to get Brayden to go. I think that he really enjoys being in the water and playing with his teacher, Ms. Julie, but he is not a fan of putting his head under the water. Brayden really dislikes getting water in his eyes (the bathtub included) so Ms. Julie put goggles on him the last couple lessons and that has gone much better. When he goes under with his goggles, he is still smiling when he comes up. When he goes under without his goggles, he rubs his eyes as he is crying or at least really frowning. For safety however, it is important that the kids feel comfortable going under without goggles because if they accidentally fall into the water, they will not have goggles on. So every time he finishes his lessons, Brayden tells me that he had fun but he does not want to go under anymore. They have been working on going under the water and floating on their back so if they fall into water without floaties, they can get onto their backs without panicking and wait for someone to get them out. The going under is still rough but Brayden doesn't mind floating on his back as long as his head is supported. Not bad for a beginner but it doesn't look like we'll be graduating any time soon.

Sounds like the kids will be prepared for a safe and fun summer in the pool and on the lake! We've been thinking about swimming lessons for Sam. Hopefully your story will inspire me to action.
